A Bit About Our Potters
Nick Lenz is an ogre who lives reclusively at the edge of the Berkshire forest where he makes pots, grows things and gets people to do things for him.. He is also widely acclaimed as one of the greatest American bonsai masters: he grows, collects, trains and finesses bonsai originals- sometimes incorporating his whimsical and dark artistic touches- and always, always creating world class specimens. He is a true American Master.
Richard Robertson lives and works out of his studio/home in Rockport Maine. With his wife Lynette and various wild helpers (pet crows among them) they create beautiful bonsai and ikebana pots which embody the Japanese aesthetic. Richard's training in Japan (he still speaks fondly of his teacher there) and years of crafting pots in the United States have combined to secure him a place as one of America's best.
Eric Stiner is a potter and sculptor living and working in Baltimore, MD. He earned his BFA at the Maryland Institute College of art where he studied pot making and bonsai with Ron Lang.
Paul Olson devotes some of his creative energy to painting, illustration and teaching at Rhode Island School of Design and Massachusetts College of Art. And he devotes some to making pots. Paul lives in Riverside, Rhode Island with his wife Susan. When not painting or teaching a class, he can often be found in his greenhouse working on his bonsai collection.
Wayne Jope has recently added pottery making to his repertoire of bonsai related activities. Wayne is another local bonsai enthusiast, grower and teacher. He is especially adept at grafting. His solid, earthy pots and glazes also have enough color and form to frame trees beautifully.
