One-Of-A-Kind Japanese Black Pine
The JBP 'Mikawa' is a favorite among bonsai lovers. It has soft needles and aged looking bark. However, I don’t think a bonsai professional would be able to identify a “Mikawa” Pine. Mikawa is a location in Japan where these trees originated from.
These were grown from an imported seed, 5+ years ago. The seeds were imported from Japan and they were labelled “Mikawa” so presumably that is correct.
Nonetheless, this Japanese Black Pine is as healthy as they get. Pictures don't do it justice, but scroll through them to see the trees features.
I hand selected these trees to post online. This tree was acquired as a "raw" pre-bonsai. It recevied it's first styling in December 2022. It looks kinda weird at the moment. Long needles and sparse. That will change in the spring with new growth. New needles will sprout and these old needle can be cut / removed.
The Tree you see is the tree we'll ship. This is going to be an awesome Shohin.
Evergreens such as Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) can be relied upon for an interesting display through winter. The erect bright green needles and rugged bark on this species create a forceful persistent image. It makes a particularly striking effect at a time when so many other trees are sparse-leaved or bare.
Black Pines are becoming harder and harder to find.
