35+ Year Old Japanese Black Pine – Powerful Trunk, Gerald Rainville Grown
Few bonsai carry this much presence.
This Japanese Black Pine, grown patiently from seed for over 35 years by Canadian bonsai master Gerald Rainville, has the kind of trunk and structure collectors dream of. Thick, rugged bark, powerful taper, and tiered branching give this tree an unmistakable sense of age and authority.
Already potted in an unglazed bonsai container, this tree is more than just material—it’s a finished foundation ready for refinement. The movement and proportion are all there, waiting for the right artist to bring it to its full potential.
We acquired the entire group of Gerald’s mature Shohin-Size JBPs during our last trip north. Once these are gone, there are no more.
If you’ve been holding out for a pine with real gravitas, this is the one to consider.
