35-Year Japanese Black Pine Bonsai — Gerald Rainville Grown
This Japanese Black Pine was grown from seed by Gerald Rainville more than three decades ago, long before “Rainville” became a name people recognized in the bonsai world. It carries the qualities that define his work: compact needle length, strong interior budding, and structure developed slowly over seasons, not forced or rushed.
The trunk shows age in all the right ways: textured bark, natural movement, and subtle taper that only time can make. The branching is balanced and ready for your hand, whether you lean toward a clean, refined profile or prefer a slightly more rustic, natural expression. The tree is healthy, stable, and has been consistently cared for—no shortcuts, no last-minute styling, no surprises.
At 16” tall with a 13” spread, it has visual presence without requiring a large display area. It’s also at a wonderful stage for stewardship: mature enough to enjoy today, yet young enough that your choices will continue to shape its future character.
Trees like this are not easily replaced. Rainville-grown pines of this age surface rarely, and when they find new owners, they stay there. If you’ve been waiting for the right Japanese Black Pine to anchor or elevate your collection, this one is special.
