One-Of-A-Kind Gerald Rainville Grown Kishu Shimpaku
Due to USDA regulations, we cannot ship Junipers to California.
Power, balance, and age. This Rainville-grown Juniperus chinensis ‘Kishu’ has it all. The tree sweeps dramatically to the right in a subtle semi-cascade form, anchored by a heavy, timeworn trunk that twists upward before diving outward in motion.
The base is thick and rugged, with aged bark that tells the story of decades in cultivation. Near the root flare, veins of live wood and pale shari intertwine. The kind of natural texture that can’t be faked or rushed.
The apex bends back gracefully toward the center, creating perfect tension and movement. Every branch shows maturity. Old bark, fine twigging, and the beginnings of refined foliage pads that could easily be developed into a show tree.
The foliage is true Kishu. Tight, rich, and full, with that unmistakable deep green color that holds its density even in strong light. The pads are compact, giving the tree immediate presence and refinement.
This is a mature, exhibition-grade pre-bonsai with structure, age, and style — everything you’d expect from a Rainville-grown juniper. Whether you choose to refine it into a finished cascade or keep developing its powerful base, this tree’s bones and movement make it an absolute standout.
