All-Inclusive Bonsai Basics — Juniper “Karate Kid” Workshop
Ready to shape the classic “Karate Kid” Juniper? Learn at NEBG’s working nursery, where you’ll be hands-on in our greenhouse with instructors who style and care for bonsai every day. This is an exclusive, limited-run workshop we typically host only a couple of times each year—timed for early spring, when Junipers are best worked.
Important: Junipers are outdoor trees. You’ll take home an outdoor bonsai and a clear care plan suited to New England seasons.
What You’ll Learn (2½-Hour, Beginner-Friendly)
- A brief history of bonsai and why Junipers are iconic for beginners
- Juniper-specific design: movement, pads, and silhouette
- Techniques for pruning, basic wiring, and initial styling (outdoor best practices)
- Soil and repotting timing for Junipers (why early spring matters)
- Care & maintenance: watering, fertilizing, light, and pest management for outdoor trees
You’ll demystify Juniper care and head home with a tree you styled yourself, plus the confidence to keep it thriving outdoors.

Hands-On From Start to Finish
Your instructor will guide you step-by-step through selecting a pre-bonsai Juniper, transplanting, trimming, pruning, wiring, and initial styling. You’ll leave with a beautifully started Juniper and an outdoor care plan.

Workshop Details
- Cost: $95 per student
- Duration: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
- Class Size: Limited to 8 students for a more personal experience
- Location: 914 S. Main Street, Bellingham, MA 02019 (workshops are in the greenhouse behind our retail store)
Extras: Refreshments available for purchase — soda, water, and snacks.
Policy: All sales are final. No refunds will be issued for workshops.

Shipping Bonsai Trees:
Bonsai trees are generally shipped on Mondays & Tuesdays to avoid having them stay in the boxes for any extra time over the weekends.
Shipping Non-Tree Items
All non-bonsai items such as bonsai pots and bonsai supplies are shipped within 48 hours of receiving payment. Most orders are shipped either the same day or the next day, depending on the time of day the order is received.
Important Guidelines:
** We cannot ship to a FPO, APO, P.O. Box or to locations in Alaska, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or anywhere internationally.
** All Bonsai are shipped direct from the nursery and may ship separately from other items purchased via the Bonsai Outlet.
** If extreme weather is expected, we may delay shipping your Bonsai tree to guarantee a healthy arrival; in such a case we will contact you. We are shipping living trees and must be conscious of the temperature conditions to the delivery address, as well as, while in transit. That said, we reserve the right to hold the tree(s) to guarantee a healthy delivery. We will Hold Your Tree Until It is Safe to Ship.
