35-Year-Old Dawn Redwood Bonsai Grown by Gerald Rainville – Rare Pre-Bonsai with Museum-Worthy Taper
Limited Release
We’re opening the vault again—this time with something truly unexpected.
For the first time ever, we’re offering a limited batch of Gerald Rainville grown Dawn Redwoods. Each tree is over 35 years old, and they’re unlike anything we’ve seen before—mature trunks with dramatic taper, captivating bark texture, and vibrant deciduous foliage that glows green in spring and summer, then turns rich copper in fall.
These are true pre-bonsai—living foundations with age, structure, and the kind of potential that only time can create.
While some trees are already reserved for refinement by Peter Olson and John Romano at NEBG, the rest are being released as-is for collectors and artists ready to shape something extraordinary.
Note: If a tree disappears from the website, it was either sold or is now being styled by Peter or John—and will likely return at a higher price point.
Why This Tree Matters
Grown by Gerald Rainville
A legendary Canadian bonsai grower with four decades of dedication, Gerald’s trees are prized for their age, character, and natural movement. His Dawn Redwoods are rarely seen—and even more rarely offered for sale.
True Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides)
A deciduous conifer with ancient lineage, fast growth, and stunning seasonal transitions. Ideal for upright and forest-style bonsai.
35+ Years Old
This isn’t just a tree. It’s time, patience, and mastery in botanical form. The taper and trunk girth alone are museum-worthy.
Incredible Trunk Movement
From powerful flare to delicate twists, each trunk tells its own story—something you just can’t find in younger nursery material.
