About the Instructor
Andrea Meriggioli, born in 1989 in Trieste, Italy, discovered his passion for bonsai at a young age. Self-taught and later trained in Japan, he owns Hiryen bonsai and is the author of books on Maples. As a UBI national bonsai instructor since 2015, Andrea seamlessly blends Japanese and European bonsai practices.
- Introduction to Japanese Maples: Participants will learn about the characteristics and cultural requirements of the Japanese maple, including light, water, and soil needs.
- Repotting and pruning techniques: Participants will learn how to properly repot Maple bonsai trees and how to prune them to maintain their shape and size. Caveat - we are trying to keep the trees dormant as long as possible. If the Maples are fully leafed out, you may not be able to repot the maple.
- Wiring techniques: Participants will learn how to use wire to shape and style their Maple.
- Styling and design: Participants will learn how to design and create aesthetically pleasing Maples.
- Care and maintenance: Participants will learn how to care for trident maple bonsai trees, including how to fertilize, water, and protect them from pests and disease.
Most workshops are hands-on, allowing participants to work on their own bonsai trees and receive guidance from an experienced instructor. These workshops can be a great way for bonsai enthusiasts to learn new skills, meet other bonsai enthusiasts, and improve their bonsai trees.
