Trident Maple Workshop with Laurent Darrieux (September 23, 2023)
A hands-on educational workshop focused on the art of styling, and caring for Trident Maples bonsai.
Laurent will provide guidance and support as students work on their trees, covering topics such as wiring, pruning and styling, and creative design elements.
Each student will receive personalized feedback and advice from the instructor.
About the Instructor
Famed Bonsai expert, Laurent Darrieux, will journey from his residence in France to conduct an extensive workshop on trident maples here at NEBG as part of the Fall Celebration 2023.
As the pioneer of the Kozumic approach, Laurent's artistic vision greatly differs from conventional Bonsai methods. Instead, he seeks to craft trees and shapes rooted in profound imagination.
Here's what you can expect from Laurent's workshop:
- Introduction to Trident Maples: Participants will learn about the characteristics and cultural requirements of the trident maple, including light, water, and soil needs.
- Repotting and pruning techniques: Participants will learn how to properly repot trident bonsai trees and how to prune them to maintain their shape and size.
- Wiring techniques: Participants will learn how to use wire to shape and style Trident Maples.
- Styling and design: Participants will learn how to design and create aesthetically pleasing Trident Maples.
- Care and maintenance: Participants will learn how to care for trident maple bonsai trees, including how to fertilize, water, and protect them from pests and disease.
Most workshops are hands-on, allowing participants to work on their own bonsai trees and receive guidance from an experienced instructor. These workshops can be a great way for bonsai enthusiasts to learn new skills, meet other bonsai enthusiasts, and improve their bonsai trees.
We have selected AWESOME plant material (Included with your fee) and will guide the transplanting and styling of your Bonsai.
Participation Level: Intermediate
Attendee Cost: $175 per student and includes the Trident Maple
Duration: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Please arrive a few minutes early.

- Bonsai tools, soil, and aluminum wire to support the class
What’s NOT included:
- Bonsai Pot: Participants have color and shape preferences. It’s not included but we have thousands of pots to choose from.

Shipping Bonsai Trees:
Bonsai trees are generally shipped on Mondays & Tuesdays to avoid having them stay in the boxes for any extra time over the weekends.
Shipping Non-Tree Items
All non-bonsai items such as bonsai pots and bonsai supplies are shipped within 48 hours of receiving payment. Most orders are shipped either the same day or the next day, depending on the time of day the order is received.
Important Guidelines:
** We cannot ship to a FPO, APO, P.O. Box or to locations in Alaska, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or anywhere internationally.
** All Bonsai are shipped direct from the nursery and may ship separately from other items purchased via the Bonsai Outlet.
** If extreme weather is expected, we may delay shipping your Bonsai tree to guarantee a healthy arrival; in such a case we will contact you. We are shipping living trees and must be conscious of the temperature conditions to the delivery address, as well as, while in transit. That said, we reserve the right to hold the tree(s) to guarantee a healthy delivery. We will Hold Your Tree Until It is Safe to Ship.
